WHAT KIND OF LIFE FORM CRIMINALIZES SEX?

 

Sex is everywhere all the time.  It might even be a force of nature like gravity; SEXITY, my anthropology professor called it.  Could item two explain what's wrong with America?  Could item 3 explain why Canada is a more advanced civilization?  And is Maddona our Albert Einstein of the laws of SEXITY?

In a world of unconscionable levels of violence, inequalities, and injustices, why are we prosecuting sex in public?  Is public sex more dangerous to our mental and emotional health and that of our children than public warfare, public violence in entertainment, the perversity of our everyday public attacks on each other and our environments?  What is wrong with a life form that seems so committed to creating anti-sexity moralities while continuing its massive assault on the human and ecological foundations of life itself?  We are a species out of time and out of space.

FLORIDA, SOCIOLOGY, AND EXISTENTIAL THREATS

  By now you have probably read about the decision in Florida to remove “Principles of Sociology” from the state’s general education core course options. We are grateful to our members in Florida and beyond who have been working hard to make the case for the value of sociology. ASA has also been working hard to advocate for our discipline in Florida and in other states facing the prospect of similar decisions. In advance of the final Florida decision, ASA submitted a public comment objecting to the proposal, joining in an effort undertaken by many local sociologists who shared deeply compelling arguments in writing and in person.
